Ready for Nationals? The 3 Things You Should Be Doing Right Now

Nationals season is officially HERE. Whether you’re heading to the Irish Nationals in June, the Scottish Nationals later in the month or the North American Nationals or British Nationals in July, the weeks ahead are so important and how you use them can make all the difference to how you feel when you step out on that stage.

Here at MWM, we believe that real, lasting progress comes from working on three things together: your Movement, your Mindset, and your Community. So today, we’re giving you one powerful focus for each pillar to help you make the most of the build-up to Nationals.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Pick ONE Focus & Find Your WHY

In the weeks before Nationals, it can be tempting to try and fix everything at once. But here’s the truth - that approach usually leads to overwhelm and very little actual progress. Instead, we want you to pick ONE key movement focus and go deep on it.

That’s exactly what we’re doing inside the Gold Club this week with our Posture Challenge (18th–22nd May). Posture is one of the most impactful things a judge notices — so it’s our one big focus right now.

But here’s the part most dancers skip: finding your WHY.

WHY does your posture break down? Is it weakness in your core? Tight hip flexors pulling you forward? Nerves causing your shoulders to creep forward? Fatigue in the second half of your round? When you understand the root cause, you stop guessing and start fixing — quickly and effectively.

So before your next training session, ask yourself:

  • What is the ONE movement thing I most want to improve before Nationals?
  • WHY does this happen — what is the underlying cause?
  • HOW can I target that root cause specifically in my training this week?

๐Ÿง  Ditch the Comparison Trap

As Nationals gets closer, it’s completely natural for your brain to start playing tricks on you. You might find yourself scrolling through other dancers’ training videos, comparing your progress to theirs, or worrying that you’re not “ready enough.”

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. This is one of the most common mindset challenges we hear about inside the MWM community.

Here’s your mindset challenge for the weeks ahead: redirect your focus back to YOU.

  • Write down three things you have improved since your last feis. Proof that you ARE progressing.
  • Create a simple pre-competition routine that grounds you — breathing, a playlist, a power phrase. Something that’s YOURS.
  • Unfollow or mute accounts that make you feel less than. Your feed should fuel you, not drain you.

Remember: the only dancer you need to be better than is the one you were yesterday ๐Ÿ’ซ
