Celebrating the Small Wins in Your Dance Journey
Nov 20, 2025Big dreams are amazing…recalling at Majors, getting that world medal, Dancing on the big stage. But between those huge moments are hundreds of tiny ones… the ones that actually get you there.
So often, Dancers (and parents!) rush past the little wins because they don’t seem “big enough.” But here’s the truth: small wins are the stepping stones to your big goals.
If you can learn to see them, feel them, and celebrate them, your motivation, confidence, and joy will grow - right alongside your Dancing 💚
🌱 Every Step Counts
Progress isn’t just about medals - it’s about movement. Maybe today your turnout felt stronger, or you remembered to breathe before walking on stage. Maybe you finally nailed that correction your Teacher gave you last week.
Those moments might not come with a trophy, but they matter. Because each one is a sign that you’re learning, growing, and getting closer to where you want to be.
In our Gold Club Mindset Sessions, we call this “collecting evidence.” Every small win is proof that what you’re doing is working even when results don’t show it yet.
🌈 Train Your Brain to Notice the Good
Your brain is wired to spot problems first - that’s just how humans work! But you can retrain it to focus on what’s going right.
After each class or practice, try asking yourself:
💫 “What felt better today?”
💫 “What am I proud of?”
💫 “What progress did I see, even if no one else noticed?”
Parents - you can use these same questions at home. Instead of asking, “How did it go?” (which can sometimes trigger self-criticism), try “What’s one thing you were happy with today?”
That single shift in language helps dancers reframe their progress - a core skill we use in 1:1 Mindset Coaching sessions using NLP tools.
💃 Celebrate in Your Own Way
Celebrating doesn’t always mean a big fuss. Sometimes it’s a high five, a happy dance, or a quiet smile that says, “I did that.”
Here are some of our favourite ways Dancers in the MWM community celebrate:
🎉 Creating a “Wins” page in their training journal
🎉 Taking a photo or video after a proud moment
🎉 Writing a message in the Gold Club Members’ community to inspire others
🎉 Doing a silly dance in the kitchen (always a win)
The more you celebrate the small things, the more your brain associates dancing with joy and joy is what keeps you improving long-term.
🌟 Progress Is Personal
Your journey is yours alone - not your friend’s, not your classmate’s, not even your past self’s.
There’ll be weeks where everything clicks, and weeks where nothing seems to go right. But if you zoom out, you’ll see that you’re always moving forward, just at your own pace.
Even professional Dancers and World Champions have learned to track their progress through feelings. They know that celebrating the process keeps their fire burning and that’s exactly what we teach inside MWM.
If you only celebrate when you reach the “big” goal, you’ll miss out on 95% of your journey. But if you start celebrating the little ones, the improvements, the effort, the courage to keep going, every day becomes a win. So, tonight, take a second to smile at how far you’ve come. Because every pointed toe, every correction, every comeback…is worth celebrating 💚
